Growth through the power of music

Music is an incredible medium for connection, and music therapists use it to create a space for physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth. A Music Therapist is a trained and certified professional who utilises music with intention to stimulate connection and growth in their clients.

By engaging in various music-related cognitive and physical activities, we can work together to support growth in many areas.

  • Cognition and memory
  • Self-expression
  • Social skills
  • Emotional regulation
  • Stress and anxiety management
  • Speech and communication
  • Fine and gross motor development
  • Musical skill and confidence
  • Autonomy and self-acceptance

Music therapy is for people of all ages and walks of life. Whether you're a child exploring the world, a senior reconnecting with memories, or anyone in between seeking a creative path to emotional and cognitive growth — music therapy can meet you where you are.

BC Autism Funding through the Ministry of Children & Family Development can cover up to $6,000 per year for children aged 6–18. Learn more about funding options.

Connection as the beginning to healing

In my journey to become a Music Therapist, I've worked a lot in the day-to-day lives of children with complex needs. I have worked as a community support worker, respite worker, an Educational Assistant in elementary and high school, and most recently, an Autism Support Worker specializing in complex behaviours.

I pride myself in my ability to connect with every client I meet. I strive to listen, and to learn from each of my clients, so I can fully understand them. I think outside the box, and with my wide scope of experience I am pleased to offer Behaviour Intervention.

Sometimes music isn't the answer, at least not at first. My focus in BI work is to build a relationship with my client in whatever means I can — play therapy, nature therapy, sensory implementation, and verbal counseling. Through these means and more I believe that connection is the beginning to healing.

Express yourself through music

I have trained all my life to be a musician, and that part of me is very excited to offer private music lessons. With over 20 years of experience in piano, particularly improvisational piano, a Vocal Performance degree and over 10 years of singing semi-professionally, I am pleased to offer voice and piano lessons.

I have always believed that the voice is the window into the soul. What better way to truly express your authentic self than through an instrument that you were born with? I am classically trained as a Lyric Baritone, but I've put much of my focus in recent years into Jazz, Folk, Pop and Musical Theater. Through lessons I can teach you to understand your voice and utilize it to its full potential to create a beautiful expression of yourself.

I offer piano lessons for beginners up to grade 7 in the Royal Conservatory of Music. However, my true skills lay in improvisation. Like the voice, your fingers can also be a medium of expression and I can teach you to play with your ears and with your heart.
